FAQ

  • What do other states do?

Michigan is one of eight states in the country that doesn’t allow policyholders to hold their insurance companies accountable when they act in bad faith. View the state-by-state comparison here.

  • Will this raise my insurance rates?

That’s a question for the insurance companies. Why would they raise rates when they are fulfilling their obligation to their consumers. Additionally, a University of Pennsylvania study shows that there is no evidence that bad faith laws increase premiums. This is a scare tactic by the insurance industry to avoid accountability.

  • Will this increase litigation?

Only if the insurance companies continue to operate in bad faith. If your insurance company meets their obligation to you and pays out rightful claims, then there will be no additional litigation.
